The Chamber of Deputies approved yesterday (24) a bill authored by deputy Maurício Rands (PT-PE) that prohibits students from being enrolled in two public colleges at the same time. The proposal now goes to the Federal Senate where, if approved, it will pass to the President of the Republic for sanction.
The measure, however, is ex nunc , that is, it will only Special Data apply to students who try to enroll in two universities after the law is published. Those who already study at two universities will be able to finish their studies normally.
The intention is to democratize public higher education, which has a large gap in vacancies in relation to the number of students able to attend it. The proposal states that the student will have five days to decide which university they will stay at. If he does not respond, the oldest registration will be cancelled. If the student pursues two degrees at the same university, there will be no option and the most recent enrollment will be cancelled.
Although the vacancies were won on merit, the deputy argues that it is necessary to offer more positions to a greater number of people.
